God Works Through the Few

Have you ever felt the weight of serving in ministry with only a handful of helpers—or maybe with no team at all? It can be discouraging when you see other ministries with large volunteer bases, polished programs, and plenty of resources, while you’re just trying to hold things together. But Scripture reminds us of a powerful truth: God does not need many to do great things. He delights in using the few.
As Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) says:
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
God’s Kingdom is not measured by numbers but by faithfulness. Let’s look at a few powerful moments in Scripture where God worked through the few:
1. Gideon’s 300 (Judges 7:2-7)
Gideon started with an army of 32,000 men—but God reduced it to just 300. Why? So Israel would know the victory came from Him, not their own strength. With this tiny band, God defeated the Midianites.
👉 What we can learn: When your team is small, it may be exactly how God wants it—so His power can shine through.
2. Jonathan and His Armor-Bearer (1 Samuel 14:6)
Jonathan looked at his young helper and declared, “Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” With courage and faith, the two of them attacked the Philistines and sparked a victory for Israel.
👉 What we can learn: You and even one partner in faith can make a huge impact when God is with you.
3. David Facing Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
David was just a young shepherd with a sling and a few stones. Against a trained giant warrior, he seemed too small and too weak. But he came in the name of the Lord—and one faithful servant brought down the enemy that terrified an entire nation.
👉 What we can learn: Don’t underestimate what God can do through one willing vessel.
4. The Widow’s Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7)
A desperate widow had nothing but a small jar of oil. Elisha told her to gather empty vessels, and God multiplied her little into an overflow that met her needs.
👉 What we can learn: Your “small” resources, when surrendered to God, can become more than enough.
5. The Early Disciples (Acts 1:15, Acts 17:6)
At the start, there were only about 120 disciples gathered in the upper room. Yet through prayer, unity, and the power of the Spirit, this small group turned the world upside down.
👉 What we can learn: The size of your team doesn’t limit the move of God—HE multiplies the impact.
Encouragement for You Today
If you feel like your ministry is “too small,” remember: God has always chosen the few, the weak, and the unlikely to accomplish His greatest works. He rejoices in your obedience, not your numbers.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Action Step
This week, make a “Small but Mighty” Scripture List.
Write down these verses (and any others God brings to mind) on note cards or in your journal.
Each day, read one aloud and declare: “God works through the few, and He is working through me.”
If you’re leading a small team, share one verse with them each week to encourage their hearts.
Jesus isn't asking you for numbers—He’s asking you for faithfulness. Stay steady, stay faithful, and trust that He is multiplying your efforts in ways you cannot yet see.
As always....I'm cheering you on! :D
